What does the Bible teach about prayer?
Prayer runs through the whole Bible. Hannah prayed for a son, and God answered by giving her Samuel (1 Samuel 1:27). Solomon asked for an understanding heart to judge the people (1 Kings 3:9). Daniel kept praying three times a day with his windows open toward Jerusalem, even when it was forbidden (Daniel 6:10). Jonah prayed to the Lord from the belly of the fish (Jonah 2:1).
Jesus taught His disciples to pray in secret and gave them the prayer that begins "Our Father which art in heaven" (Matthew 6:6–13). In Gethsemane He prayed, "not my will, but thine, be done" (Luke 22:42). The church prayed for Peter while he was in prison (Acts 12:5), and Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises at midnight (Acts 16:25). Paul told believers to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). The questions ask who prayed, what they asked for and how God answered.
