Which animals appear in the Bible?
Animals play a part in many Bible stories. A serpent tempted Eve in the garden (Genesis 3:1), animals went into the ark two by two, and Noah sent out a raven and a dove, which came back with an olive leaf (Genesis 8:7–11). Frogs and locusts came as plagues on Egypt. Balaam's donkey spoke (Numbers 22:28), ravens fed Elijah (1 Kings 17:6), a great fish swallowed Jonah (Jonah 1:17), and Daniel was kept safe in the lions' den. David killed a lion and a bear while guarding his sheep (1 Samuel 17:34–36).
In the New Testament, the Spirit came down like a dove at Jesus' baptism. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a young donkey, spoke of the lost sheep, and said it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God (Matthew 19:24). John called Him "the Lamb of God" (John 1:29).
