Who was Elisha?
Elisha was a prophet in Israel who followed Elijah. Elijah found him plowing with twelve yoke of oxen and cast his mantle upon him (1 Kings 19:19). Before Elijah was taken up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit, then picked up Elijah's mantle and struck the Jordan, and the waters parted (2 Kings 2:9–14).
Many miracles are recorded in Elisha's ministry. He made a widow's oil keep flowing until every vessel was full (2 Kings 4:1–7), raised the Shunammite woman's son to life and fed a hundred men with twenty loaves. He told Naaman the Syrian captain to wash seven times in the Jordan, and Naaman was healed of leprosy (2 Kings 5:14). When an army surrounded Dothan, Elisha prayed and his servant saw the mountain full of horses and chariots of fire (2 Kings 6:17).
