Who was Deborah?

Deborah was a prophetess and a judge of Israel. She sat under the palm tree of Deborah in mount Ephraim, and the people came to her for judgment (Judges 4:4–5). At that time Israel was oppressed by Jabin, a king of Canaan, whose captain Sisera had nine hundred chariots of iron (Judges 4:3).

Deborah sent for Barak and told him that God would deliver Sisera into his hand at the river Kishon. Barak said he would only go if she went with him, so she warned that the honor would go to a woman (Judges 4:8–9). The Lord routed Sisera's army, and Sisera fled on foot to the tent of Jael, who gave him milk and then killed him with a tent nail while he slept (Judges 4:21). Deborah and Barak sang a song of victory, and the land had rest forty years (Judges 5:31).
