What is the Book of Isaiah about?

Isaiah the son of Amoz was a prophet in Judah during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah (Isaiah 1:1). In the year King Uzziah died he saw the Lord on a throne, with seraphim crying, "Holy, holy, holy," and he answered God's call with "Here am I; send me" (Isaiah 6:1–8).

The book warns Judah and the nations of judgment for sin, yet it is full of hope. It promises a child called Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14) and a son whose name shall be called "Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God" (Isaiah 9:6). It tells how God delivered Jerusalem from the Assyrian king Sennacherib in the days of Hezekiah. Later chapters offer comfort to God's people, describe a servant who "was wounded for our transgressions" (Isaiah 53:5), and look ahead to new heavens and a new earth (Isaiah 65:17).
