What is the Book of Romans about?
Romans is a letter from the apostle Paul to the believers in Rome, a church he had not yet visited. In it he lays out the gospel, which he calls "the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1:16). He shows that Jews and Gentiles alike have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23), and that people are made right with God by faith, with Abraham as the great example (Romans 4:3).
The middle chapters speak of grace, freedom from sin and life in the Spirit, ending with the promise that nothing can separate believers from the love of God (Romans 8:38–39). Paul then writes about Israel's place in God's plan. The closing chapters turn to daily life: offering yourself as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1), loving one another, respecting those in authority and welcoming those who are weak in faith.
