What is the Book of 2 Corinthians about?

2 Corinthians is the apostle Paul's second letter to the church at Corinth, and one of his most personal. He begins by praising "the God of all comfort" who comforts us in all our tribulation (2 Corinthians 1:3–4). He describes the gospel as a treasure kept in earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7) and says that anyone in Christ is a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17).

In chapters 8 and 9 Paul encourages the Corinthians to give generously for poor believers in Jerusalem, reminding them that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Later he defends his ministry against false apostles and lists what he has suffered, including beatings, shipwrecks and an escape over the wall of Damascus in a basket. He tells of a thorn in the flesh and the Lord's answer, "My grace is sufficient for thee" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
