What is the Book of Revelation about?
Revelation is the last book of the Bible. It records a vision given to John while he was on the island of Patmos "for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Revelation 1:9). It begins with messages from Jesus to seven churches in Asia, among them Ephesus, Smyrna and Laodicea (Revelation 2–3).
John then sees the throne of God in heaven and a Lamb who is worthy to open a book sealed with seven seals (Revelation 5:1–9). The book describes seven trumpets, seven vials, the dragon and the beast, and the fall of Babylon. It ends with the defeat of evil, the final judgment, and a new heaven and a new earth, where God will wipe away all tears and there will be no more death (Revelation 21:1–4). The holy city, New Jerusalem, has gates of pearl and a street of pure gold (Revelation 21:21).
