What is the Book of Acts about?

The Acts of the Apostles is traditionally attributed to Luke and continues the story of his Gospel. It begins with the ascension of Jesus and His promise that the apostles would be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit comes, Peter preaches, and about three thousand people are baptized (Acts 2:41).

The church grows despite opposition. Stephen becomes the first martyr, and Saul, who had persecuted believers, meets the risen Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3–6). Peter learns that the gospel is also for the Gentiles when he visits Cornelius (Acts 10). The second half follows Paul's missionary journeys, his arrest in Jerusalem and his voyage to Rome, where the book ends with him preaching in his own rented house (Acts 28:30–31).
