Who is Jesus in the Bible?

Jesus of Nazareth is the central figure of the New Testament. The Gospels tell how He was born to the virgin Mary in Bethlehem (Luke 2:4–7), grew up in Nazareth, and was baptized by John in the Jordan River, when a voice from heaven said, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (Matthew 3:16–17). He chose twelve disciples and traveled through Galilee and Judea, preaching the kingdom of God.

Jesus healed the sick, calmed the storm, fed the five thousand and raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:43–44). He taught in parables and gave the Sermon on the Mount. In Jerusalem He shared the Last Supper with His disciples, was betrayed by Judas, and was crucified under Pontius Pilate. On the third day He rose from the dead (Luke 24:6–7), appeared to His followers, and was taken up into heaven (Acts 1:9).
