What is the Book of Exodus about?
Exodus is the second book of the Bible and is traditionally attributed to Moses. It begins with the Israelites enslaved in Egypt under a Pharaoh who feared how many they had become. Moses, saved as a baby and raised in Pharaoh's household, later meets God at a burning bush and is sent to bring His people out (Exodus 3:1–10).
When Pharaoh refuses, God sends ten plagues on Egypt, ending with the death of the firstborn and the first Passover (Exodus 12:1–13). Israel leaves, crosses the Red Sea on dry ground (Exodus 14:21–22) and is fed with manna in the wilderness. At Mount Sinai God gives the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1–17) and makes a covenant with the people. The book closes with the building of the tabernacle and the glory of the Lord filling it (Exodus 40:34).
